Boatstory

Boatstory was the name of a work written by Spencer Grant and illustrated by Lulu McGregor. It was planned to consist of four books, but we ended up prioritising other passions and interests after graduation and the project has long since fallen by the wayside.

The first and only entry into the series is called Down by the Sea. Down by the Sea is a YA/Middle-Grade book that presents itself as an anthology, with 7 individual stories connected by the same cast and setting. It follows Mele Kiaora, Roy Alfredsson, Ian Patch, and Sam van Lucette, a small “found family” of sailors, as they explore the local folklore of the island Gao.

Mele, Roy, and Sam seek the power of a set of magic scrolls with the ability to grant nearly any wish. The scrolls, scattered across the island, draw the three into a set of adventures that help them grow and learn more about themselves and the world around them.
